New boxed cartridge found!

Post by Sam64H »

Hi guys,

I recently get my hands on an uncomon cart and never thought this game was released on cart.

the game is "Duck Tales Quest For Gold"

Here are some pictures :

I couldn't find anything about it on the web. I asked few friends and one of them remember having seen this cart advertised in some magazines.

The manual is a copy and don't say anything about cart and have c64 and amiga disk instructions. This copy is made from another boxed copy as the seller had 2 of them and one have been already sold earlier. Hapilly he did some photocopies of the original manual and have included it in the second boxed version he have without manual that I bought from him :-)

So at least we are 2 ho have this cart

Originally I think that they just included the amiga/c64 manual and didn't made a specific "cart" manual.

The game seems to be the same as the disk one with the benefit of instant loading and playing.

Any info is welcome about this find. The sticker is original and I'm sure this is not a hand made cart.

Maybe Mayhem have heared about it somewhere ?

Nice find Sam. Is it some kind of prototype or bootleg? Any chance of a cartridge dump in the future?

Thanks :-) I don't think it's any kind of prototype or bootleg. I think it have been sold but in very very small quantities.

The sticker have a serial and is marked "uk" so I believe it have been sold there.

This one have been found in Danemark.

I will post pics of inside of the cart soon...

I have a d64 of the game, if memory serves, I remember the disk version being released around the same time as it was on the Amiga, and I have a feeling that was around the same time the GS was launched - so maybe a early GS title? I haven't seen or heard of the cart before.

Well, Titus were known to do catridges for the Amstrad GX4000 (not Duck Tales) so they might have done a few for the C64..

Just checked Mayhem's site, no record of anything by Titus..

You might have found a rarity there..

I've been chatting with Sam, I'm still very much in the sceptical camp as a few things don't completely add up. More investigation hopefully will prove interesting...

Titus, I believe, was planning some C64GS releases but nothing came to fruition.

The label looks like Titus labels..

On the Amstrad GX4000, they released Crazy Cars II, Fire and Forget II, Dick Tracy and Wild Streets on cartridge.

They did advertise Duck Tales on cartridge for the GX4000 but no mention of a cart release for the C64..

The lack of a label on the cart is interesting.

Little googling, and it does seem the game itself was published around the end of 1990 - the same time the GS was launched. It would seem odd that they are unrelated, but equally odd that it doesn't seem to have seen the light of day. :?

Good luck Sam i'm hoping you found something truly rare. :)

Maybe a few were produced then binned for some reason and a sneaky staff member or janiter recovered a few.

It's very convincing looking at the pictures for the average joe. "Me"
